The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officially ushered in the festive season on Sunday evening with the grand unveiling of the Tropical Christmas Wonderland at Eko Hotels and Suites. The dazzling light-up ceremony, held on the hotel’s iconic grounds, marked the beginning of a month-long celebration designed to enchant families, tourists, and residents of Lagos.

Flanked by dignitaries including Prince Segun Aremo, Mrs Kay Ovia, Professor Duro Oni, and HRH Erelu Kuti, Governor Sanwo-Olu took centre stage to activate the breathtaking light display. The event transformed the Eko Hotels premises into a magical Christmas landscape, symbolising Lagos’ commitment to celebrating its cultural vibrancy and creating unforgettable family experiences.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Christopher Chagoury, Chairman of Eko Hotels and Suites, welcomed the governor’s support, highlighting the event’s broader significance. “With the support of leaders like Governor Sanwo-Olu, we’re not just creating a Christmas event, but building a tradition that celebrates the best of African hospitality,” Chagoury noted.

He further stated that “the Tropical Christmas season at Eko Hotels and Suites has grown to become more than just an event; it is an experience that brings families, friends, and communities together.” He invited guests to join a magical journey from December 20th, 2024, to January 2nd, 2025, promising a wonderland with attractions catering to every age group.

Additionally, Mr Chagoury specially acknowledged Zenith Bank, the headline sponsor of the Tropical Christmas Wonderland, for their unwavering dedication to the growth of Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism industry. “Your partnership has been a cornerstone of this journey,” he said, emphasizing the collaborative spirit that makes such grand celebrations possible. “Your belief in our vision to deliver an unparalleled experience is deeply appreciated. Together, we have created a tradition that celebrates the festive season and tells the story of Africa—a story of innovation, creativity, and an enduring commitment to excellence.”

A special highlight of the evening was the breath-taking performance by the Evolution Choir. Their powerful rendition of Christmas carols created a magical ambiance that perfectly captured the season’s spirit.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s presence signals the Lagos State government’s commitment to supporting creative industries and tourism. By lending his personal presence to the Tropical Christmas Wonderland, he demonstrated how public and private sectors can collaborate to create extraordinary experiences for Lagos residents and visitors.

As the lights blazed to life and the crowd erupted in applause, it was clear that this was more than just a Christmas event. It was a celebration of Lagos’s vibrant spirit, its innovative approach to entertainment, and its ability to create magical moments that bring people together.
