Youth group honours Ethiopian Airlines with Award of Excellence

Ethiopian Airlines

For flying into Kano and Kaduna, and keeping a daily flight to Abuja, one of Africa’s leading airlines, Ethiopian Air was honoured by Northern Youth Initiative For Peace And Good Governance (NYIPGG), a youth coalition from the Northern for the airline’s contribution to the development of Nigeria.

Led by the President, Comrade Abubakar Muhammed, the youth came from Abuja, Kano and Kaduna to present the award to the airlines’ General Manager, Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen at their Lagos office.

Expressing gratitude to the youths, a surprised Mekonnen said: “My few years stay in Nigeria has left me with great admiration of the enterprise and the drive of the Nigerian, and having the younger generation of Nigerians honouring us as an airline is a thing of joy.”

“On behalf of my group CEO and the entire team of Ethiopia Air lines I would like to thank the northern Nigerian youth for this award ” she added.

According to the award of ‘excellence as most outstanding airline’ was in recognition of Ethiopian Airline’s immense contribution towards nation building, human development, educational development and youth empowerment for the benefit of Nigeria at large.

Muhammed recalled that in February the airline received the African leadership award in Lagos, and last month in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also honoured by the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agents (NANTA) as the most Supportive International Airline, during Association annual general meeting (AGM).

Reacting, Mekonnen also thanked the agents for their support and loyalty to the airline, saying Ethiopian has been in Nigeria since November 1960 and today serves five airports.

“We have supported Nigeria all through its ups and downs. We have stuck to Nigeria, as a brother should. You may recall the Abuja closure experience last year and how we made the sacrifice of going to Kaduna,” she stated.

Mekonnen also stated that the airline recently made a statement with the new spirit of African, which is an example of the African spirit of determination, by being the first African airline carrier to airlift the highest number of passengers out of Nigeria, which is a testimony to the growing relationship between it and Nigeria.

“We are very happy to serve Nigerians with the most modern aircraft in the world — the Airbus A350 and the B787 Dreamliner along with the B777 aircraft.”
