2024 Paralympic: Nigeria’s Ugwunwa wins silver in women’s javelin

Team Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa has won a silver medal in women’s Javelin F54, at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Ugwunwa finished second in the event with a throw of 19.26m behind Uzbekistan athlete Nurkhon Kurbanova who set a world record with a throw of 21.12m.

The bronze medal was won by Elham Salehi of Iran who threw 16.24m.

Ugwunwa became the first Nigeria to win a medal in Para-Athletics, at the ongoing games.

Her feat has now taken the country’s overall tally to four medals won at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.

The 40-year-old has now won her third consecutive medal at the Paralympics: two gold medals (Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020) and now silver (Paris).

Other athletes who have won medals for Team Nigeria are Oyinyechi Mark, Eniola Bolaji and Esther Nworgu.
