Afaramai, Samuel, Onyemenam win CBN Junior Tennis Championship star titles

Heman Afaramai from the Ikeja Police College Tennis Club and Gloria Samuel from the LekMak Tennis Academy in Ado Ekiti won the boys’ 16s and girls’ 16s titles at the grand finale of the 2026 CBN Junior Tennis Championship, which ended at the Ikoyi Club Saturday. Pinky Onyemenam of Abuja Tennis Academy also beat the field to win the girls’ 12s category.

The boys’ 14 title was won by Alaba Adesina, who beat Gideon Afaramai 9-5, while Barakat Ganiyu defeated Sinmi Olaniyan 9-5 also to win the girls’ 14s age bracket.

In the girls’ 16s,Gloria Samuel overpowered Favour James 9-3 to emerge champion, but the biggest match of the day was in the boys’ 16s category where hard-hitting Heman Afaramai of the Nigeria Police College Ikeja Lagos Tennis Academy defeated Damilola Agunbiade 9-7 in a close encounter that could have gone either way.

Apart from emerging champion in the girls’ 12s category, Onyemenam also stood out to win the girls’ most outstanding player award for 2026, while Afaramai emerged as the most outstanding player in the boys’ category.

Onyemenam defeated Amira Mohammed 9-4 to claim victory, while Gideon Peter beat Moroti Sowemimo, 9-2, to win the boys’ 12s age category .

Apart from emerging champion in the girls’ 12s category, Onyemenam also stood out to win the girls’ most outstanding player award for 2026, while Afaramai emerged as the most outstanding player in the boys’ category.
