Who will wear the crown? This is the question lady golfers from across Africa will answer on Sunday at the Ikeja Golf Club, venue of a tournament tagged, West & Central Africa Challenge Trophy.

It is the property of the Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) in partnership with Lagos State Golf Association with the Lagos State Government as the chief sponsor.

The challenge began on April 9 and will end on Sunday at the Ikeja Golf Club.

LGAN said the Challenge Trophy is aimed at boosting the country’s tourism industry, adding that about 200 players and officials from 20 African countries are featuring in the event.

Among the countries represented in the challenge are Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Benin, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville, Sierra Leone, Congo DRC, Niger, Morocco, Chad, Egypt, Tunisia and the host country Nigeria.

Consultants, government officials and a large number of local and international spectators from Nigeria and participating countries, as well as fans from all over the world, will visit the shores of Lagos to be part of the golf challenge among African ladies.

Organisers of the event say the gains from hosting it in Lagos cannot be over emphasized, as staging this noble event is in tandem with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s vision in making Lagos an all-year round sports hub and also bring top class international sports to the state.

It would aid development of Ladies Golf amongst participating countries across Africa. The championship would further encourage social networking amongst golfers in Africa while building their confidence level for positive representation at the global community.
