Wisdom Fenado of Akwa Starlets of Uyo, who was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the just concluded South South Champion of Champions competition organised by the Edo FA in conjunction with the FROT Group, has called on other individuals and corporate entities in the zone to think of hosting more of such events.

At the final of the competition held at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, on Saturday, Bendel Insurance defeated Akwa Starlets by a lone goal, but Fenado stole the fans’ hearts with his assured performance for the Uyo team.

For his efforts, Fenado won the MVP prize, a golden boot donated by junior international, Isaac Success, who was in the stadium to watch the final game.

Speaking after receiving his prize, Fenado thanked the Edo FA and FROT Group for thinking of helping teams in the zone to prepare for the Federation Cup, saying the competition has boosted their confidence ahead the national championship, which begins today.

Akwa Starlets will today meet J. Atete of Delta State at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.“Even though we lost today’s match, we are happy because it has given us the confidence to go into our Federation Cup game on Wednesday knowing we have the quality to do well in the competition.

“If you recall, our opponents, J. Atete, featured in this competition, but they could not make it to the final. We are sure we can beat them to advance to the next round. So, we thank Edo State and FROT Group for this gesture, which I plead with others to emulate,” he said.

Aside Fenado, another Akwa Starlets’ player, Ayaya Emmanuel, won the highest scorer’s award, while Ameh Godwin of Delta Force was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament. For their efforts, Ayaya and Godwin also got football boots donated by Success.
