.Team Delta protest Ashe Favour disqualification
Team Edo claimed the gold medal in the men’s 100m, while Delta grabbed the gold in the women’s 100m final decided on Saturday at the MKO Abiola stadium Abeokuta, Abeokuta.
But Team Delta has protested what it termed ‘unjust disqualification of U.S.-based sprinter, Favour Ashe in the final of the men’s 100m.
Team Edo’s Ezeaku Chidera won the men’s 100m title in 10.27sec, while Kate Odumoso ran11.43esc to pick the women’s title..
Odumoso passed put after the race and it took the quick intervention of the medical personnel to bring her to life.
In the men’s final, Ashe Favour was prevented from running in the final he was favoured to win. He had strolled into the final, and all spectators were looking forward to see him win the title.
However, officials claimed that Ashe wore a ‘second’ bib, and thereby stopped him from running in the final.
Ashe’s disqualification sparked a big confusion inside the MKO Abiola stadium Abeokuta. Shortly after the men final, officials of Team Delta filed a protest to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) alleging that the U.S.-based sprinter was unjustly stopped to pave the way for other athletes to win the title.
