Bendel Insurance begins quest for promotion on winning note

Bendel Insurance of Benin at the weekend started its 2017/2018 Nigerian National League (NNL) season on a flying note, as it trashed Spartans FC of Lagos 3-0.

Bendel Insurance of Benin at the weekend started its 2017/2018 Nigerian National League (NNL) season on a flying note, as it trashed Spartans FC of Lagos 3-0.

The Benin Arsenal, as the club is popularly called, were in no mood for diplomacy as debutant striker, Junior Osaghae fired the opener in the ninth minute of play.

The well-attended match played at the sports complex of the University of Benin also saw Charles Omokaro doubling the tally in a moment of brilliance in the 29th minute. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Insurance.
  
Spartans FC of Lagos came out more determined in the second stanza of the game with substitute Dolapo Toeeb, who replaced Emeka Igbodiuila, leading the onslaught against the home team, but Bendel Insurance safe hands, Amas Obasogie ensured his team maintained its lead. 

 
Michael Enahruna, who was introduced in the second half, increased Insurance’s lead eight minutes from time top send the fans home dancing to victory songs. 
 
Speaking after the Match, Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu commended Bendel Insurance for starting the season very well, stating that race for promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has started well. 
  
“Our destination is the premiership and the team has started very well. What we need now is for Edo people to continue supporting our darling Team.
  
“I want to thank the SSG for the free jerseys distributed today.

I call on well meaning Edolites and those who believe in Bendel Insurance to also show us the same gesture.
 
“Buy a Jersey for yourself and somebody else and come to the stadium to support Bendel Insurance. When we do that, the premiership is assured,” he said.
 
Bendel Insurance FC, Chief Coach, Baldwin Bazuaye expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the match and commended the team for its determination. 
  
“We featured a disciplined and purposeful side and you can see the result, the team played to instruction and the technical crew is satisfied with the game… we will correct the lapses noticed in today’s game,” he said.
 
Spartans FC of Lagos, Coach Abubakar Musa said his Team played an experienced side, adding, “it was a very good game, playing against an experienced side is not easy.  We are going home to prepare for our next Match.”
 
 Bendel Insurance Football Club will travel to Ibadan for the Match Day 2 fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Saturday.
