As preparations for this year’s Daily Trust Golf Tournament, billed for Ibom Icon Golf Course in Uyo gathers momentum, support has continued to pour in for the organisers of the event, with Central Bank of Nigeria, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturers, Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Navy, RwandaAir and Akwa Ibom State government the latest to signify their intention to be part of the show.

Billed to hold tomorrow, the one-day competition will feature about 120-golfers drawn from across the country. The players are expected from Benin, Enugu, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, Katsina and Lagos.

Speaking ahead of the competition, the General Manager, Business and Strategy, Daily Trust, Ahmed Shekarau, said the tournament will accommodate the crème of Nigeria’s golf players, captains of industry and special guests for a weekend of exciting golf while promoting national unity.

“We made the conscious decision to promote the game of golf through the Daily Trust Golf Tournament because golf’s growing popularity among Nigeria’s prime movers has elevated the sport to a strategic meeting point for the elite class,” Shekarau said.

Apart from the numerous prizes to be won, the star prize for both the men and the ladies’ winner, is an all-expenses-paid golfing weekend in Kigali, Rwanda; a three-night stay in a five-star hotel in Kigali; two-rounds of golf at the Premier 18-hole Kigali Golf Club and a business class round-trip on Abuja-Kigali ticket on Rwanda Air.
