‘De Defenders are in Prudent Energy Handball League to win’

De Defenders coach, Sunday Ajana, has warned other teams not to underrate his side, saying they are in this year’s Prudent Energy Handball League to win the championship, which begins this weekend at the Package B of the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Ajana, who said his team signed three players to strengthen the squad ahead of the league, said he has corrected the mistakes of last season where they lost some crucial matches in the first phase.

“I am aware most teams think they can get cheap points off us, but I tell you that no team should look down on my players.

“In order to perform well, we signed Adegoke Bero from Owena Kings, Sanni Bature from Lagos Seasiders and Jacinta Ani from Kastina. They will add to the existing players and take us to the promise land.

“Last season, we made terrible mistakes and it cost us valuable points. This time around we will ensure we take every match seriously and by the grace of God, victory is ours,” he said, adding that commendation goes to the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) President, Sam Ocheho, for staging the championship.

“The players across the country are excited about the return of handball. So many people thought that we would not play the league this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the board of HFN led by Sam Ocheho put every preventive measure in place in order for the league to hold.”
