In their efforts to build a disciplined, competitive, and result-oriented team capable of achieving the club’s objectives of playing in the Premier League ‎the management of Abakaliki FC has appointed former Rangers International player, Jude Agara and others as assistant coaches.

Other assistant coaches according to Ogba includes Anthony Idowu, alongside the club’s immediate past captain, Timothy Cyril, who has been appointed as a trainer following his retirement from active football.

Unveiling the assistant coaches on Monday in Abakaliki, the Chairman of Abakaliki FC, Senator Obinna Ogba, expressed confidence that the appointments would strengthen the team’s technical depth and improve its competitiveness.

‎Sen. Ogba noted that the recruitment was to reinforced their technical crew with the appointment of new assistant coaches as the club intensifies preparations for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season in pursuit of promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Ogba also stated that the appointments formed part of ongoing efforts to reposition the team for a successful campaign, in line with the vision of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, whose administration is committed to seeing the club gain promotion to the top flight.

Speaking earlier, Head Coach Anistar Starplus described the appointments as a strategic step towards achieving the governor’s vision of building a formidable team that would make Ebonyi people proud.

‎He expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness for the new season and appealed to football lovers and other stakeholders to support the club’s quest for NPFL promotion.

‎The head coach also commended the management of Abakaliki FC and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ebonyi State Chapter, for their partnership and urged continued positive media coverage to showcase the team’s potential.

‎One of the newly appointed assistant coaches, Jude Agara, a former Rangers International player, pledged to work closely with the head coach and other members of the technical crew to build a disciplined, competitive, and result-oriented team capable of achieving the club’s objectives.

‎Another assistant coach, Anthony Idowu, alongside the club’s immediate past captain, Timothy Cyril, who has been appointed as a trainer following his retirement from active football, also assured the management of their commitment to teamwork and the club’s success.

‎Abakaliki FC, who reached the latter stages of the 2025 President Federation Cup and have continued to establish themselves as one of Nigeria’s emerging football clubs, are expected to commence intensive preparations ahead of the new NNL season.
