Super Eagles number one goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has left Chippa United after four years with the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side.
Chippa United confirmed Nwabali’s departure in a statement yesterday, saying that the former Go Round FC star was released from the club following a mutual agreement.
The club said that the 25-year-old shot-stopper, who impressed for the Super Eagles and became one of the standout performers in the PSL, leaves the Eastern Cape side after a consistent run of commanding displays.
According to reports from South Africa, Nwabali’s exit from Chippa United is expected to spark immediate interest from Kaizer Chiefs, who have tracked him closely over the past two seasons.
The Amakhosi have been in the market for a reliable number one after inconsistent performances from their current goalkeeping department, and Nwabali’s availability could provide the solution they have been seeking.
Chiefs were previously linked with the Nigerian during the 2024/25 campaign, but Chippa managed to hold onto him at the time.
In a statement yesterday, Chippa United thanked Nwabali for his consistency and professionalism, saying: “Stanley has been an important part of our journey, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter.”
Nwabali’s reputation has grown beyond South Africa, with European clubs and Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca also reported to be monitoring his situation.
