With the 2025/26 season gradually coming to an end, some Nigerian football stars saw action across Europe over the weekend, producing a mix of notable performances. While Umar Sadiq emerged as the hero for Valencia by scoring the winning goal and Victor Osimhen netted for Galatasaray on his return from injury, the likes of Nathan Tella, Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi were not left behind as they also provided assists for their respective clubs.

TURKEY

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Victor Osimhen is back like he never left after netting a goal for Galatasaray on his return from injury to help his club thrash bitter rivals, Fenerbahce 3-0 in a crunch Turkish Super Lig encounter at the RAMS Park on Sunday.

Osimhen had been sidelined with a wrist injury, having undergone surgery but returning after missing a few matches, the Nigerian talisman weaved his magic wand by scoring Galatasaray’s opening goal against Fenerbahce in the 40th minute.

The Super Eagles striker who was issued a yellow card in the 99th minute has made 50 Super Lig appearances for Galatasaray from which he has scored 39 goals, while he has netted 20 times this season.

ENGLAND

Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)

Calvin Bassey saw full action while Samuel Chukwueze was substituted on Saturday when Fulham inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Aston Villa in a keenly-contested Premier League fixture at Craven Cottage.

Chukwueze had a hand in the only goal scored by Ryan Sessegnon on 43 minutes before the Nigerian international winger came off for Oscar Bobb in the 76th minute.

Alex Iwobi is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury which he sustained during Fulham’s 0-0 draw with Brentford in a Premier League London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend.

Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)

Taiwo Awoniyi made an assist on Friday after coming off the substitutes’ bench to help Nottingham Forest thrash Sunderland 5-0 in a Premier League game at the Stadium of Light, with the club moving further away from the relegation zone.

Awoniyi replaced Chris Wood in the 88th minute and in the fifth minute of added time, the Super Eagles striker set up Elliot Anderson to make it 5-0, making it his first Premier League assist of the season.

Ola Aina was also in action to mark his 17th Premier League appearance of the campaign as Forest extended its unbeaten run across all competitions to eight matches.

The Nigerian defender who saw full action even had a hand in Forest’s fourth goal on 37 minutes, with his left-footed shot leading to a scramble from which Igor Jesus hit the back of the net.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Despite reports that he was involved in a dressing room fight with a teammate, Tolu Arokodare was in action for relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers who continued its Premier League losing run by falling 1-0 to strugglers Tottenham Hotspur at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday.

Arokodare, who has been linked with a summer exit from Wolves came off the substitutes’ bench in the 71st minute to replace Rodrigo Gomes.

Frank Onyeka (Coventry City)

Frank Onyeka came up with an assist on Sunday as Coventry City officially lifted the Sky Bet Championship title after defeating Wrexham 3-1 at the CBS Arena.

It marked Onyeka’s first Championship assist in the colours of Coventry, with the Nigerian International doing well to feed a beautiful through pass to Ephron Mason-Clark to score the final goal of the game in the 94th minute.

Semi Ajayi (Hull City)

Semi Ajayi played for only 46 minutes on Saturday when Hull City’s hopes of finishing in the Sky Bet Championship top-six for a place in the Premier League play-off took a hit following a 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

The Super Eagles defender who was yanked off the pitch for Mohamed Belloumi did not cover himself in glory when Charlie Kelman skipped past him to score Charlton’s opening goal.

SPAIN

Umar Sadiq (Valencia)

Umar Sadiq emerged as the hero for a second consecutive La Liga match by scoring the winning goal to help Valencia climb five points above the drop zone after beating fellow relegation-fighters Girona 2-1 at the Mestalla.

After scoring in a 1-1 draw at Mallorca last weekend, Sadiq took it a step better on Saturday by scoring the winner against Girona in the 59th minute courtesy of an assist from Jose Gaya before the Nigerian striker was taken off for Hugo Duro on 71 minutes.

GERMANY

Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)

Nathan Tella contributed an all-important assist to help Bayer Leverkusen maintain its push for Champions League football by securing a 2-1 win over FC Cologne in Saturday’s German Bundesliga match.

Having become a regular since returning from injury, Tella set up Patrik Schick to score Leverkusen’s winning goal in the 52nd minute before coming off for Eliesse Ben Seghir in the 72nd minute.

The 26-year-old Super Eagles winger also registered two goal attempts, 37 touches, one dribble, two key passes, and an 88 percent pass accuracy against Cologne.

Victor Boniface (Werder Bremen)

Victor Boniface was an unused substitute when Werder Bremen played out a 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart in a German Bundesliga match on Sunday.

For Boniface, it marked a return from injury after last featuring in a competitive game on December 7, 2025 when Bremen suffered a 3–2 defeat to Hamburger SV.

The Super Eagles forward sustained a cartilage damage in that game and required surgery. The injury made him miss 17 Bundesliga matches as well as the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

FRANCE

Tochukwu Nnadi (Olympique Marseille)

Tochukwu Nnadi registered his maiden goal contribution in his first French Ligue 1 start for Olympique Marseille which played out a 1-1 draw with OGC Nice at the Orange Vélodrome on Sunday.

Having joined Marseille in January, Nnadi had only made four substitute appearances but on his full Ligue 1 debut, the Nigerian midfielder made an instant impact, providing an assist.

USA

Alhassan Yusuf (New England Revolution)

Alhassan Yusuf was impressive for New England Revolution when they met Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a Major League Soccer (MLS) clash at the Nu Stadium on Sunday morning.

The Super Eagles midfielder recorded one key pass, had 65 touches, 13 carries, five interceptions, seven ball recoveries, and 11 total defensive contributions as his club earned a 1-1 draw against Messi’s Inter Miami.

CZECH REPUBLIC

David Moses (Slavia Prague)

David Moses scored the winning goal for Slavia Prague which came from behind to defeat Sigma Olomouc 2-1 in a Czech Republic league game at the Fortuna Arena on Saturday.

The 22-year-old midfielder earned an impressive 8.3 rating from Sofascore after registering 91 percent pass accuracy, two shots, three successful dribbles, seven defensive contributions, and nine recoveries.
