Foreign-based stars expected this week, as Black Stallions get departure date
Nigeria Rugby national team (Black Stallions) Coach, Fabian Juries, has assured that the team will excel at the 2019 Rugby World Cup qualifiers slated to begin in Morocco next week.
Juries, who supervised the team’s warm-up tie against Barbarians at the weekend, described the game as a big test match for the Black Stallions aimed at measuring the strengths and weaknesses of the team.
According to him, ‘’Despite humiliating our opponents with over 10 tries, the team still needs to work harder in the breakdown. With the right mental focus the Stallions will excel in Morocco.”
He disclosed that foreign-based players, including Christian Ogar, who plays for Belhar RFC in South Africa and Thankgod Okafor, who plays for Varsity College RFC also in South Africa, will join the team this week as they continue preparations for the championship.
The Black Stallions, he said, will depart for Morocco on July 11 and will play their first tournament match two days later against Mauritius before battling with the hosts on July 16.
The winner of the tournament will gain promotion to 1B, which is a step closer to the ticket for the 2019 World Cup, which will be hosted by Japan.
