Acting Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Tunji Oladosu, has announced a new date for Captain’s Invitational Tournament in deference to the former captain of the club, Ola Ibironke

Acting Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Tunji Oladosu, has announced a new date for Captain’s Invitational Tournament in deference to the former captain of the club, Ola Ibironke, who died recently. The competition will now hold today and tomorrow.

The maiden tournament, being organised to celebrate captains of golf clubs, past and present, was earlier slated for September 18, 2021, but had to be postponed because of the sudden demise of Ibironke, who initiated the competition on September 12.

A trophy in memory of Ibironke, according to Oladosu, has been introduced as a major coup for the competition, which also offers mouth-watering incentives. It is open to all golfers from major golf clubs in Nigeria.

“Many exciting prizes were in place for winners in different categories during the maiden tournament, while a cup with mouth-watering incentive has also been introduced as part of our efforts to immortalize the name of the late immediate past captain,” said Oladosu.

The acting captain added: “We are expecting many golfers from other golf clubs like Ikeja, IBB, Ikoyi, Abeokuta, Ekiti, Benin and Port Harcourt golf clubs, among others. That is why we are not leaving any stone unturned towards ensuring an itch-free tournament.

“The organising committee for this event is chaired by Elder Larry Adeyemo, who is also a past Captain of IGC. The idea is to celebrate our captains, either past or present, bring them together to fete in a social gathering considering their selfless efforts in serving as golf club captains.

“Golfers in that category in golfing have worked selflessly for humanity and it is time now to be served too.”

He disclosed that other golf clubs are expected to bid to host subsequent editions of the competition.
