Ireti Primary School has emerged winners of the maiden 11Plc grassroots football tournament, defeating Olajuwon Primary School 4-2 in a keenly contested match at the Campos Square sports arena on Lagos Island.

The event sponsored by 11Plc, formerly Mobil Oil of Nigeria Plc, in concert with the Lagos State Universal Education Board, attracted eight primary schools in Apapa LCDA and environs as part of the corporate social investment of the company in its host communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director, 11Plc, Tunji Oyebanji said the competition was aimed at harnessing young footballers that abound at the grassroots and discover more football talents to represent the nation in global competitions.

Oyebanji said the event was also part of the company’s love of giving back to society, this time through sports development projects, even as he pledged continued sponsorship of the tournament.

SUBEB Education Secretary, Apapa LGA, Fatimah Olawepo commended the company for sponsoring the tournament, adding it would go a long way in boosting sports in the state.

She later presented a giant trophy to Ireti School and consolation prizes to runners up as well as the third place winner, Ire Akari Primary School, Apapa LCDA, Lagos State.
