Iwobi, Bassey lead Fulham win over Man United at Old Trafford
Nigeria Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey got the two goals that earned Fulham a shock 2-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford in Saturday’s Premier League game.
Before Saturday’s game, the last time Fulham beat United was on 19 December 2009.
But the winless run was eventually ended as Bassey’s opener and Iwobi’s stoppage-time goal sealed the three points.
While it was Bassey’s first league goal for Fulham, Iwobi has now scored four Premier League goals this season.
Bassey gave Fulham the lead in the 65th minute as he volleyed into the roof of the net inside the box off a rebound from a corner.
But in the 89th minute, Harry Maguire equalised for United as he reacted quickest, slamming the ball into the net after Fulham keeper failed to hold Bruno Fernandes’s shot.
But in the 97th minute, Iwobi made it 2-1 as he received a pass inside the box, off a counter, cut inside and slotted past Andre Onana.
The win saw Fulham occupy 12th position and United remain at sixth on 44 points, eight points away from fourth spot.
