Super Eagles Midfielder, Alex Iwobi, was held hostage by knife-wielding armed robbers yesterday in his London home, according to reports.
According to Kapitano Sports, the armed robbers broke into the 29-year-old Fulham winger’s home unnoticed, but came face-to-face with the former Arsenal star and decided to take him hostage at knifepoint.
Once Iwobi was incapacitated, the gang managed to ransack his home, stealing wristwatches, jewellery, iPhones, a MacBook, and around £200,000 in cash that Iwobi had stored in his safe.
Sources estimated the total value of the stolen items at £500,000.
When they realised that there was nothing left to steal, the robbers fled the scene.
Iwobi managed to free himself and call the police, who have already launched an investigation into the incident.
Preliminary reports suggest that neither Iwobi nor any of his family members were harmed.
