The maiden edition of the Bet9ja Delta state National Teqball tour ended at the Stephen stadium, Asaba, at the weekend, with Kwara athletes sweeping virtually all medals at stake.
Though, the event is still new in the country, the memories of what transpired in Asaba will linger for a long time.
The four day event, which started on May 10, had over 10 states in attendance.
At the end of the championship, Kwara state emerged the best, sweeping the medals in the finals of all five events.
The dominant Kwara state defeated Taraba 2-0 in the men doubles final to clinch the gold, just as they also took out Edo state 2-0 in the mixed doubles final. Kwara also won the gold in the women’s single final following 2-0 win over Edo.
Kwara state also won the gold in the men’s singe, as Nigeria’s number one and world 34 best Teqball player, Victor Oyemade, defeated a fellow Kwara state player and Nigeria number five, Funsho Samsudeen, 2-0.
The pair of Gladys Abasi and Success Eke of Edo state, against all odds, defeated Kwara state pair of Rashidat Salau and Shade 2-1 to win the women’s doubles to the celebration of the fans at the venue.
Kwara state also won Gold and silver in men’s double While Host, Delta State, settled for the Bronze medal in the women’s single third place, and Edo state representative, UYI Amengor Teqball Club snatched the bronze medal in the men’s double with a 2-1 win over Ogun state.
Speaking during the presentation of medals, Bet9ja Ambassador and former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Nosa Ikpeba, said Teqball has come to stay in Nigeria. He praised the organisers, players, and sponsors for their efforts.
“Teqball has come to stay in Nigeria, I enjoyed myself today, let me thank Delta state Sports Commission for their support. I also thank Marvel Dick, who is the Delta state Teqball chairman for this great feat. I must also commend the Nigeria Teqball Federation’.
“We hope for a bigger and better edition next time. The winners, players and officials, please be disciplined and keep up the good work. The future is bright for you all, Ikpeba stated.
On his part, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Teqball Federation Mr Edede Ndudi thank the host state Delta for a successful event.
“I want to thank Delta state for a wonderful and colourful ceremony, this is your show, other states should take a cue from Delta. I am impressed with what I have seen here since my arrival.
I thank everyone that has made this possible, the host, the organisers and our sponsors, Ndidi stated.
In his votes of thanks, Chairman Delta state Teqball, Marvel Dick commended the various chairmen, States and sponsors who were part of the success story in Asaba, Delta state.

Earlier, branded Jerseys were given out to all the finalists by the Sponsor Betnaija , led by the Delta state Teqball chairman, Marvel Dick and assisted by the SSA to Delta state Governor on sports, Mr Lucky Sunday.
