Man City defend Carabao Cup in semifinal clash with Man United

Manchester City will continue on their journey to defend their hold on the Carabao Cup in a Semifinal showdown against fierce rivals

Manchester City will continue on their journey to defend their hold on the Carabao Cup in a Semifinal showdown against fierce rivals, Manchester United today.

It will be the second time both Manchester-based teams will lock horns this football season, having previously met in the Premier League in December.

The Red Devils ran out of the fixture at the Etihad as surprise winners with a 2-1 victory, but they will be wary of Pep Guardiola’s men as they visit Old Trafford for the first leg of the Semifinal. City travel to Old Trafford with a 100 per cent Premier League record there under Guardiola, though once he suffered defeat at United in the 2016 League Cup fourth round. The match will be on Supersport 3 at 09:00.

Manchester United are coming into the game on the back of a drab goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup at the weekend, while Manchester City ran out 4-1 winners against Port Vale in the same competition. Both teams were able to rest many of their first-team players in the FA Cup games and will have fresher legs for Tuesday night’s clash.

Embattled Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will hope to replicate the December victory over the local rivals as he looks to guide the historic club to their first trophy in two years. United trio Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, and Luke Shaw missed the trip through illness and Harry Maguire sustained a knock but will be assessed on Tuesday morning ahead of the clash.

The other interesting Carabao Cup Semifinal clash will involve Premier League highflyers, Leicester United who host Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

Leicester has enjoyed a dream season under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and will be favourite to come out tops against the Birmingham based team, although the Villans will be full of confidence after seeing off league leaders Liverpool in the competition.
