Super Eagles former captain, Austin Okocha, in conjunction with I-naira.com yesterday in Lagos officially unveiled the ‘Jay Jay Okocha Foundation,’ which the retired footballer said is part of efforts to ensure sustainable development in the country.

Among many projects, the foundation, he said, will also sponsor less privileged children to a well-tailored qualitative education.

The former Super Eagles’ captain, who at the event signed a partnership pact that made I- naira.com the official auctioneer for the foundation, said the project presents an opportunity for him to touch the lives of the less privileged in the society.

He said his desire to set up a foundation a few years after retiring from football was a major landmark event, adding, “I decided to set up a foundation to impact the lives of citizens of the country, whether rich or poor.

“My key focus is on child education and creating jobs. As an ex footballer, who have gained much popularity in the game of soccer, it will not augur well for me not to give back to the society.

“I am not getting younger… I will not be happy if people do not remember me for anything good apart from football. The foundation will generate money through auctioning my collections, the jersey and boots I used while playing the game.

“Some of my friends’ collections will also be auctioned by I-naira.com to help raise money for this cause. I will also use my popularity to bring unity in the country,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, 1-naira.com’s Chief Executive Officer, Hilary Nwaukor, promised that his company would not relent in achieving Okocha’s objectives.

“We employ every Nigerian to key into this initiative by registering on line with us withN2,000. Anybody that gets 15 people to register under them within four days will get N1,000.
