Sports Minister, Sunday Dare at the weekend teed off this year’s Independence Golf Tournament at the IBB International Golf Club, Abuja with no fewer than 500 golfers, including those from Ghana and captains of major Golf Clubs in the African continent.

Dare, who represented President Muhammad Buhari, the Grand Patron of the IBB International Golf Club, promised to assist in the further development of the club.

“October 1 is the day, which we recall, the political independence of this country. In 59 years, we have come thus far; it is still a journey with twists and turns. We can look back and say this country has actually progressed.

We’re blessed with leaders at different times, and currently, we have a leader that is transformational, a leader that is concerned about the institutional rationalisation, a leader that is concerned with laying the foundational structure for the development of this country in all spheres.”

Chairman organising committee, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, said arrangements have been made to accommodate the huge number of participants.
General IB Haruna, chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) shortly before the official teeing off pointed out, “Truly, I am your host, the colossal investment by government to build and nurture this Club has been an investment worthwhile.

“May I thank our grand patron, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander in Chief, and thank you to be given the opportunity to be represented by no other important Minister in his cabinet that overlooks the development of sports and youth. This investment here is part of our commitment to the development of our youth, the development of our society.”
