Sane faces the heat in Munich, another chance on Wednesday?

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann must decide whether to give Leroy Sane another chance in mid-week after the Germany winger was jeered by the fans on Sunday and substituted.

Bayern play their re-arranged German Cup first-round match at fifth-tier Bremer SV on Wednesday.

Sane, 25, was booed after losing the ball several times and hitting a poor free-kick during Munich’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over Cologne. The announcement that he was replaced at half-time was met with applause from the stands.

Nagelsmann was not happy with these reactions, saying that “the fans should support their players.

“That is important for me. I think there is no player on the planet who doesn’t want to perform at his best,” Nagelsmann said.

But Nagelsmann also urged Sane not to sulk and “to present himself even more motivated” to win the fans back with good showings.

“It wouldn’t make sense to play demotivated now. That wouldn’t lead to less jeering,” Nagelsmann said.

Sane, who came to Munich last year from English top side Manchester City, is considered a highly gifted player but has not fully met the big expectations.

And Nagelsmann has plenty of options for Wednesday and beyond on the wings.

Jamal Musiala, who came on for Sane, set up the opening goal from Robert Lewandowski, and the other winger Serge Gnabry got the other two goals.

Nagelsmann hailed Gnabry’s “unbelievably good” finishing and said that Musiala was “outstanding in attack.”
