Tennis Masters: Adeyinka Adebayor set to lure top South West juniors to Ekiti

More than 48 players will converge on Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State for the first General Adeyinka Adebayo Junior Tennis Masters tournament billed for May 19 to 22.

The U-14 and U-16 tournament will hold at Ekiti State Tennis Centre, Trade Fair Complex, Ado Ekiti.

According to the organisers, the Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo Junior Tennis Masters is being bankrolled by Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the Minister of Trade and Investment, while the organiser is the Ekiti State Tennis Association.

Speaking on the competition, Chairman, Ekiti State Tennis Association, Yemi Owoseni, said the stage is set for the tennis event, which would be held in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.

Owoseni, who is the Vice-President, Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) Zone Two, said each state would feature eight players, comprising of four boys and four girls, adding that accommodation and feeding would be provided for all the players throughout the tournament.

He added: “The arrival day is on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. This tennis event is sponsored by Otunba Adebayo, former Ekiti State governor, and now Minister for Trade and Investment, as part of his contributions to the development of tennis not only south-west states, but Nigeria in general.

“I have received confirmation from all the six states except for one state, and I believe that the state will still participate because they have quality players there too.

“This tournament will enhance the growth and development of our junior tennis players in the zone and among the comity of players in the country. Also, it will help to discover more talents that will be groomed for near future and represent Nigeria in international events.”
