Text: Ephesians 5:18-21

Key Verse: Numbers 11:25, “Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders, and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied.” (NKJV)

Moses was a great man of God. He was a man full of God’s Spirit. God’s Spirit in him was so much that God had to take a fraction of it and shared it among 70 elders of Israel. The Spirit rested upon them that they began to prophesy. God did not send a fresh outpouring to the 70 leaders; He took from what was upon Moses and anointed 70 other leaders and they were all filled to the point that they began to prophesy. How do you think Moses was? Think about it?

Many years ago, the Lord showed me this Scripture. I did not read it from any book and I did not see it from any commentary. I was wondering how will God give His Spirit to one man and say bring 70 people and instead of God sending fresh outpouring on them, He takes a little from one man and puts on the 70 and all of them were filled. What type of man was Moses that a fraction of the Spirit of God that was upon him was used to fill 70 people? Just a fraction! Can a fraction of the Spirit upon you be taken to fill many others?

Moses was born when Pharaoh was tyrannically dealing with God’s people (Acts 7:19). There is always a time in the history of men that God will raise somebody to fulfil God’s purpose on earth.

In Galatians 4:4, the Bible said that when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, Jesus to the world. Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. The Bible said that Moses was mighty in words and deeds (Acts 7:22). This was because when God raised Moses as a leader, Moses did not depend on the learning and wisdom of the Egyptians, but God filled him with the Holy Spirit. It was not about the Egyptian schools Moses attended. If you study history, you will know that the wisdom of Egypt was foremost and Moses was being trained to become the next Pharaoh. The Egyptians spared no effort in training him with all the wisdom, B.A, M.A., PhD, double PhD, triple PhD and military skill. Moses had all academic qualifications, but when God called him, those things were put aside and God filled him with the Holy Spirit.

Education is very good and everyone should try to get as much education as he/she can get. However, things began to change for the worse when the church gradually shifted emphasis from the Holy Spirit to education. This led to the question: Where are we missing it? I ask, ‘why should we not miss it? Now, nobody is asking whether the people are filled with the Holy Ghost or not, rather we are concentrating on paper degrees as qualifications for ministry. We seem to forget that what is more important is a divine qualification, as we can see in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.

When you read and get a PhD, please remember PhD does not concern the devil. Remember very well that the devil does not care about it what worries the devil is the Holy Spirit in you. There is no degree anybody will get on earth that worries the devil. Ephesians 5:18 us with a positive command: “But be filled with the Spirit.” This is a command, not a suggestion. It is an urgent imperative, not a casual option.
