Text: John 1:29-36

Key Verse: John 1:29, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (NKJV)

The central reason for Jesus taking the form of flesh was to die like a lamb so that He could take away the sin of the world. John was witnessing to this central reason for the incarnation, when he said, “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin” (1 John 3:5, KJV).

Christ ransomed us from our futile ways with His precious blood. Like a lamb without blemish or spot, Jesus was offered as a sacrifice for the sin of the world. The lambs that were used in the Old Testament as offerings for sin were all pointing to Jesus because they had to be spotless and without blemish (Leviticus 4:32–35). But every serious believer knew that the blood of animals could not really take away sin, no matter how clean they were (Hebrews 10:4) and that was why Jesus the Lamb of God was offered as a final sacrifice for sin.

Whatever you preach or listen to in the name of the gospel, in the name of the good news and in the name of God’s will for man, if it is not centered on Jesus that cannot be the gospel. Jesus is the name that Has been given to us, the name by which we war and move into victory. You can stand against sin, Satan, demons and whatever the forces of darkness may throw against you by the only name Jesus.

There are many great people you may have been told of; there are many philosophies of life propounded by great philosophers and there are so many things you may have read of, but there is only one person who actually matters and His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the gospel we preach and the only name we preach. God elevated Jesus to the place of highest honour and bestowed on Him the name above all other names because He humbled Himself like a lamb and became obedient to death on a cross for the sin of the world (Philippians 2:8-10).

If you want to enjoy the goodness of God in your life today, it has to be through Jesus Christ, and if you want to enjoy the deliverance that God Has prepared for the entire world today, it has to be through Jesus Christ. Dear friend, behold the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. Are you living an ungodly and abominable life, a life of deceit, hypocrisy and wickedness? Whatever kind of sinful life you may be living; behold the Lamb of God Who takes away your sin.

The only way to accessing the freedom from sin that only Jesus Christ gives is by believing in Jesus Christ and calling on that name Jesus in repentance. Paul asked, “How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? (Romans 10:14). Genuine preachers of the gospel have been sent by the Holy Spirit who is burdened for the salvation of your soul. The plan is all embedded in Jesus Christ, the lamb who takes away the sin of the world.

As you behold the Lamb of God today, He will set you free from all sexual immorality, abominations and ungodly evidence that Satan is multiplying in the world these days. If you allow Jesus Christ today, He will come into your life. You will have the joy and the blessedness of sins forgiven.

Today’s Nugget: Christ ransomed us from our futile ways.
