Children are God’s heritage

J. A. Shodeinde
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalms 127:3).
“AND they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, ‘Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.’ And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:13-16).
CHILDREN are a gift from God. Children are highly important before God. They should be brought to Christ. They must be introduced to God very early in life. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). The time you introduce your children to the teachings of the gospel is when they are young. Do not wait until they have become adults. Due to the covenant Hannah made with God, she gave Samuel to God after she finished weaning him. By the time Samuel was given out, he was very young. It takes determination for any woman to do such. Samuel eventually became a great prophet and a judge in his country, and there were no regrets. Let your children be punctual and regular in church, so you can ignite the fire of the Holy Ghost in them. Children who are brought to Christ become blessed now, and in the future. God is much displeased, when you leave your child at home, while you attend church services. The Word of God modifies the lives of children positively and makes them useful to God and the society. If you don’t want your children to be a menace to the society, teach them the Word of God. The Bible builds children, making them strong physically and spiritually, to face the trials and challenges ahead. Our children must know how to depend on God for their daily needs. Jesus must be introduced and given to our children, from generation to generation. As an earthly father, you will definitely be called home one day. You must leave Jesus with your offspring, and your offspring must do the same to their offspring. We must continue to pass the baton until the end of time. Abraham also taught Isaac the way of the Lord and Isaac passed these teachings to his seeds. “And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul” (Deu. 40:2). God is our heavenly father. Who’s greater than any earthly parent. We need to rely on Him for wisdom, and in training the kids He has given us. He is our map and compass to navigate this terrible world, full of hurdles and obstacles. You are your children’s number one teacher. Instruct them in the ways of God. God has made you their leader, and you must lead and guide them right. We must raise children who fear God, and observe to do all the words of the scriptures. Children look up to their parents. Children learn from their parents, so your attitude matters. If your attitude is not Christlike, it will reflect in the lives of your children.
