Finding the right partner in marriage – Part 1

This piece is informed by the escalating rate of divorce, not only in the world but also in Christendom, and the fact that in my opinion, the primary reason there is so much marital failure is a lack of marital education.

If a person wants to run an organisation, he would need to get a level of education that will equip him with the skills to manage men and resources. Unfortunately, however, we do not pay much attention to acquiring the skills necessary to manage our homes successfully. So, what we see is a society, where people are successful in their careers or in business, but make a colossal mess of their marital lives. This ought not to be. I have in my book the “Missing Rib” dealt copiously on this subject and will try and give you hints through this medium.

I will be addressing primarily the singles and youths, who desire to get married but are confused about how to go about getting the right partner. It is pertinent to emphasise that whosoever you get married to will influence your destiny one way or the other. Therefore, getting it right from the onset will determine whether your marriage will be heaven on earth or not.

It is also important to point out that having a successful marriage is virtually impossible without God. Since God was the One that instituted marriage, He alone has the recipe to make it work.

First Things first:
God wants you to depend on Him because He is absolutely dependable. He helps anyone who trusts in Him. He alone can give a prudent wife or a good and loving husband.

“Houses and riches are the inheritance of the fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD (Proverbs 19:14)”.

You need to wait on the LORD to get His best. His perfect gifts and blessings are not mixed with sorrow. God gives a wife to a man as a reward for his labour of love and toil in His service.

The best ‘method’ of receiving a God-sent marriage partner is not necessarily to be preoccupied with it but to set yourself apart for the LORD and His work. As you seek to serve Him faithfully, in His timing, He will reward your labour with a man or a woman just Suitable For You.

Adam And Eve – Genesis 2:15-20

Adam was in the Garden alone, faithfully doing what the LORD sent him to do. It was the LORD that decided that Adam needed a suitable companion. The initiative came from God.

It was God that saw Adam’s need for a helpmate and provided one. Many young brethren are living their lives the way they want and yet want the LORD’s blessings. This is just not possible. God blesses those who hear and obey His words.

The first thing to do is to develop a robust and intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Then only can you qualify for God’s best? Without a personal relationship with God, He is under no obligation to give you the wife you deserve.

In the case of Adam, what he did was to keep walking with the Lord, day after day and when God felt that it was time, He gave him Eve. This is the first step.
