Friendship is a choice
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33)
Life is a gift, and everyone must treat his or her life as a precious gift from God. We must daily take inventory of what and whom we allow into our lives. Judge what comes into your life to see if it is worth a space in your life. We must not give room to relationships that devalue or derail us from God’s Will; reduces or negates our God-given purposes.
Association has a way of impacting your life negatively or positively. That is why it is important to carefully choose friends that add value to your life, those that bring out the best in you and align you with God’s purpose for your life. This is because your friends will be judged as you and you as your friend.’ Choose your friends well, such that you will not be ashamed and deny them. Judas did not understand who Jesus was until he had betrayed Him. Peter also did not know who Jesus was until he had denied Him.
Then saith Jesus unto them, ‘All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.’
Peter answered and said unto him, ‘Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.’
Jesus said unto him, ‘Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.’
Peter said unto him, ‘Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.’ Matthew 26:31, 33 -35
Peter meant what he probably said but did not know who Jesus really is.
Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech betrayeth thee.
Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. Matthew 26:69-75.
It is better imagined how Peter felt after the incidents, because he later knew who Jesus was ready to die for his friend.
Unfortunately, many of us have made evil people our friends. People of low character, gossips, murmurers, backbiters, prayerless and godless people though they may come to church.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid. Proverbs 13:20-21
We must consider seriously who we make our friends, because if you do with a fool, destruction is the end results. Who you make friend with plays a major influence on whatever you become or where you arrive at. If evil pursues sinners and you make a sinner your friend or companion, what is pursuing him will also pursue you, and you become a victim of what he is a victim of.
We should not move with people of evil language, no matter the title or who they are. The journey of life is too short to bring your life under negative influence or energy. Evil communication, the Bible says, corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33). Your friends have strong influence on you. Those you move with determine where you will arrive at. Please, choose your friends well, so you will land well. Choose friends that add value to your life.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Proverbs 6:6-9
