Having the spirit of Christ – Part 4
TEXT: Romans 8:1-17
KEY VERSE: Romans 8:9, “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” (NKJV)
Anyone should have any desperation, it should be that Christ will live in Him. The desire of every true child of God is to be a container for Christ to live in. The songwriter said: “It’s no longer I that liveth, but Christ that liveth in me.” Each time I find myself in any place where people are rejoicing, I usually ask myself how much of the celebration is true or false? How much of them are genuine or counterfeit? How much of them do God accept or reject. A lot depends on the person who is involved, and it is my prayer that you to submit yourself completely to God.
In the days of Christ Ambassadors in the denomination, which I belong, we were given 10 directives. The first was about you, the Bible and the Word of God. The second talked about how to live a prayerful life and the third was about how to live like Christ before one starts winning souls for Christ. You must know the Scriptures, let the Word of God be in charge, be controlled by the Word of God, live a prayerful life, be ruled by the Word of God and live like Christ.
You must know the Scriptures, if you must live like Christ, and you must have a desire to grow in the knowledge of Christ; otherwise you will remain at the same point.
Jesus obeyed His Father to the last and because of this, the Lord has highly exalted Him. Today, when you try to give directives as a pastor, leader, etc., there are people who will just stand up and point their fingers on your face and say who do you think you are? Yet they are new creatures. If Elisha wants to get the double portion of Elijah, he must pour water into the hands of Elijah and he must follow his master everywhere. You have to submit your life completely to God and it’s not about you, it is about Christ. That is the essence of my favourite scripture in Galatians 2:20: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
Apostle Paul was pleading with the brethren in Rome, when he told them to present their bodies as holy and living sacrifice acceptable to God (Romans 12). I join him in begging you to present your body as a living sacrifice. Present your body personally, willingly, in total surrender. Present it as an intelligent presentation, present it with joy, present your body with gladness. Present your body as a holy and acceptable sacrifice to God.
The business of every Christian is to live for God and to live like Christ. It is my business to live for God and it is God’s business to take care of me. When you go to the place of prayer, you should be concerned about being more like Christ. Why do we worry ourselves about this and that? Jesus had already made a plain statement in Mathew 6:33: “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
