Christians believe in God. True Christians fear, obey and love God with all their heart, soul and might. We are children and followers of Christ, our Lord is holy, we must also live in holiness. “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation” (1Peter 1:15). To behave well as a Christian, Godliness is required, by living righteously, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of God, blamelessly. Children of God, adhere to his words with fear and trembling.
There is so much hatred, hostility and malice, amongst the Christians of today. This is not what God has called us for. God has called us to love one another, as he has loved the church. The great love God has showed to us, must also be shown to unbelievers. We must be kind and compassionate. Generosity is a part of a Christian life. Good Christians are neither greedy nor stingy; they love to share with those who do not have. There should be brotherly love without dissimulation. Honouring and respecting others is essential. If you have been coming to church for donkey years, you have all the gifts of the spirit, you know the bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you are not charitable, you are not yet Christ-like. Even when all you depend upon fails you, charity never fails. Some people may not appreciate the love you show to them, but don’t let that deter you from obeying the commandments of God. Man cannot reward you for your kindness, but God can. “Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:1-2).
Good Christians have no pride. They don’t boast. They do not think evil, and not easily provoked. They rejoice in truth and not in sin. They can bear and endure, when tribulations come. They believe and hope in God who can do all things.
Standing in one spirit with one mind, and striving together for the faith of the gospel, is expected of Christians. We must contend and live for the faith Christ has granted unto the saints, putting away all sin. “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us” (1Corinthians 5:7). We lay aside every weight of sin that has beset us, and run the race that has been set before us patiently. Christians abstain from all appearance of evil, perfecting holiness. “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1Thessalonians 5:23). We are to be perfect as our father in heaven is perfect. We must cleanse ourselves from all flesh and spiritual filthiness in the fear of God, following after all that is good.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8). Do not repay evil for evil, but do good to all men. Always follow after righteousness, patience, love, faith, and meekness, subduing all temper. Christians must have a forgiving spirit. Though you can be angry, you must not sin, because the bible says let not the sun go down upon your wrath. May the good Lord guide, teach, and support us, as we live a Christian life.
