The word “comprehend,” means darkness could not “understand” the operations of light. The truth is that there is never a fair contest between darkness and light, for the winner is already predetermined.

The word “comprehend,” means darkness could not “understand” the operations of light. The truth is that there is never a fair contest between darkness and light, for the winner is already predetermined. Light, of course, must win unless it refuses to shine. But I love the way NIV renders it: “light shines in darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” It means that though darkness tries so hard, it has not because it cannot and will not overcome it. So shall be your testimony. You shall celebrate sweet victory over all the darkness in your life. Amen.

Conclusion
One truth I have observed in the scripture is that, the easiest way to overcome darkness at any level is to be the light. If you want to overcome darkness, then be the light.  I once heard of a story of an angel of darkness telling the angel of light that there is a place so remote on earth, where darkness prevails and light with all its power had not been able to reach. Then, the Almighty asked the two of them to go with another angel of truth to verify. When they returned, they reported that darkness was not truthful, for they could not see any iota of darkness there at all. Then the Almighty said, how can there be darkness when light is present. When light is present, darkness disappears. For your darkness to disappear, just be the light. But you cannot be the light until Jesus Christ the light of the world shines on you. I see His light shinning on you and your circumstances today. Darkness brings blindness; light brings illumination. Darkness and Death are related, while Light and Life are related. When the Lord wanted to dispel darkness at the beginning, all He said was, “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:2-3) I proclaim same over your life today. Let us close by looking at how some versions of the Bible render our passage. (John 1:5)

• “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” NLT
• “And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].” AMP

• “The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.” MSG. Today, I declare, “Darkness shall not overcome you.”  So, arise and shine for your light has come. The glory of God is coming upon you. Amen (Isaiah 60:1-2) Shalom!
