The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines a dream as a series of images, events, and feelings that happen in your mind, while we are asleep. This implies that dream involves those activities that you see yourself or somebody else involved in, while you are asleep. Dreams are pictures of the spiritual that are supernaturally revealed in the subconscious to help you live in the physical. They also serve as advance notice of things to come. “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed,” Job 33:14-15.

Dreams are thoughts or mental images of a person during sleep. It is a real life-like experience during sleep. They are coded pictures and illustrations that God uses to speak to us, His children, and His enemies alike. Dream is a universal language. We find rich examples of significant dreams in Israel, Egypt and all over the world. No land is exempted from this language.

According to the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance, there are 200 references to dreams and visions in the Bible besides all the examples of great events that hinged upon dreams and the prophecies that came out of them.

Dreams and visions are frequently considered as God’s primary means of communication with man, as regards the revelation of Himself to him. “And he said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream,” Numbers 12:6. “Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword,” Deuteronomy 13:15.

Dreams Reveal Secrets:
“Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven,” Daniel 2:19.

They also reveal future events and impending danger. “For as much as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure,” Daniel 2:45. “And Joseph said unto him, this is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler,” Genesis 40:12-13.

All through the scriptures, dreams and visions are spoken of in a positive way as a means by which God gives direction, warning, promises, instruction, encouragement, and insight. Dreams come often when we are less active; when our mind, thought is less active, when our physical activities are very minimal: that is why it is associated with sleep.
