Joseph was also warned in a dream not to send Mary away (Matthew 2:12-22).

The Midianites had a dream that warned them about the coming of Gideon. “And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

“And his fellow answered and said, this is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

“And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian,” Judges 7:13-15.

King Abimelech was warned in a dream about Sarah wife of Abraham. “But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife. But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?

“Said he not unto me, she is my sister? and she, even she herself said, he is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.

“And God said unto him in a dream, yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her,”  Genesis 20:3-6.

God also warned Laban and Syrian to be careful of Jacob, “And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad,” Genesis 31:24.

Therefore, God uses dream as an instrument of warning and rebuke.
• To Give Responsibility Or Assignment

A lot of people in life have been communicated with the assignments they are to do in life while others have been challenged to do more through dreams. Many people have written books from revelations they got from dreams and others have taken up new challenges as a result of God calling them deeper in a dream. Simeon probably was told about the coming Messiah and his assignment to him while in his sleep.

“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ,” Luke 2:25-26.

Simeon’s assignment was to confirm the Messiah, which he had seen by revelation which he now saw physically.

“Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people,” Luke 2:28-31.
“And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel,” Luke 2:34.

Solomon was struggling to fill his father’s big shoe, but God came in a dream to challenge his deepest desires into taking up the assignment.

“In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said: Ask what I shall give thee?” 1 Kings 3:5.
