Purpose and blessing of tithe – Part 3

Tithing in this context was a direct acknowledgement of the sovereignty and Lordship of God over the earth. Giving back a tenth of what is already His own was a way of acknowledging God’s ownership of us and all we have. It is the returning to God of what belongs to Him.

“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, wherein shall we return?” Malachi 3:7

When you return to God by paying tithe on every income, He returns to you by blessing every source where your tithe comes from. You cannot place anything in His hands and lose it. He guarantees your safety and security.

The blessing of obedience is far more than the cost of obedience. A true believer will not find it difficult to pay his or her tithe, first fruit or offerings of any type. It is a privilege to be found of God to do so.

“But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; but unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian,” Luke 4:25-27.

You laugh all the way when you obey God; I have always experienced joy unspeakable each time I obey God in tithe, offerings or first fruit or in giving any seed to God. It builds your faith and confidence in God.

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand,” Ephesians 6:13.

Obedience to God in tithe helps you to stand against the wiles of the devil and to come to God boldly.
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need,” Hebrews 4:16.

The benefits of obeying God’s command specifically in paying your tithe, is clearly proclaimed in Leviticus 26:2-13.

“Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord. If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 

And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely … for I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. 

And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new. 
And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.  And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people. I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright,” Leviticus 26:2-13.
