If you want to know where you are going to be five years from now, listen to your words. Whether you know it or not, each time you open your mouth, you are prophesying your future.

Text: Jeremiah 1:4-8; Numbers 14:26-35
Key Verse: Numbers 14:28, “So tell them, As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say” (NIV).

If you want to know where you are going to be five years from now, listen to your words. Whether you know it or not, each time you open your mouth, you are prophesying your future. If you want to be stronger, healthier and happier, then start declaring it today. We talk more to ourselves than we do to anybody else. The question is: what is that you are saying to yourself? Jeremiah was young and he did not have a lot of self-confidence. When he heard God’s promises, rather than feeling blessed, Jeremiah was afraid. He said, “God, I can’t do that. I can’t speak to the nations. I’m too young. I won’t even know what to say.” But God answered, “Jeremiah, say not that you are young. Like Paul, you can declare today, ‘I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

Don’t let your mouth stop your blessing. Negative words hinder God’s promises from coming to fruition in your life. It is wrong to limit God with negative confessions from your lips. God responds to you according to what you speak into His ears (Numbers 14:28). God had already promised the Israelites the land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. God instructed them to go and possess it, but they said “We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we” (Numbers 13:31). They forgot that it wasn’t about them; God had already told them what He would do. So, it wasn’t about what they could do, but what they could do with God. And if you continue to read in Numbers 14, they continued to talk about how they would die in the wilderness. The whole congregation began to cry and mourn, except for two of them Joshua and Caleb. They were the only ones that said, “Let us go up at once and possess the land.”

And as a result of their words, God said in Numbers 14: 28-35, “Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do unto you.” And God went on to say how that whole generation of that congregation that spoke would die in the wilderness except two of them, Joshua and Caleb. So, the ones that said they would die in the wilderness got what they said. And the ones that said we are able and let us go up at once and possess it got what they said. Notice in Psalms 78:41 it says, “Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.” How do you think they limited the Holy One of Israel? With their words.

Another clear cut example of your words stopping your blessing is found in 2 Kings 7:1-2. When there was a great famine in the land and the king of the land went to see the man of God to get a word from the Lord. And Elisha said, “Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.” Now, watch the response of the king’s helper,

“Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be?” And the man of God said, “Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.” Notice that man’s words cut him off from something he had a right to.

Do not allow your words to cut you out from God’s blessings. Do not confess that negative thoughts in your mind, rather speak life to every situation around you (Proverbs 30:32).

Speak good to your spouse, children, home, church and you will see the fruits germinating. The Bible says that when we decree a thing, it shall come to pass (Job 22:28).

Today’s Nugget: Speak life and Grace to every situation.
