The temple of the holy spirit – Part 2

Ejikeme Ejim

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:15 – 20

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (NKJV)

We are called as Christians to glorify God in our bodies and glow like stars for God in the world. As God’s temple, we have a very high calling, and that calling is to glorify God.1 Corinthians 6:20, “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which is God’s.” We put on flesh but have been given the supernatural ability by God to reflect His glory in our everyday living and not to fulfill the sinful desires of the flesh. Jesus said it like this: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father Who is in Heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

We are God’s Temple and the Holy Spirit lives within us. If the Holy Spirit is in you, the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:16 said through the same Holy Spirit do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ and shall you take the members of Christ and make them members of harlot? God forbid. Would you go to harlots? God forbid. Would you have a girlfriend with whom you go to bed? God forbid. Would they call you a sugar daddy? God forbid. Would they call you a sugar mummy? God forbid. Would you leave your wife and have another woman somewhere? It is becoming more common every day that people in various categories in the church live in adultery. They desecrate the church building; the ones made by hands and also desecrate their bodies, which are supposed to be the indwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

The man that desires the office of a bishop must be blameless (1 Timothy 3:2). How did you live your life to the extent of being accused of immoral lifestyles even rape, not adultery again? I plead with you according to 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee from sexual immorality because it is a sin that has become very common in the church today and more widespread across all the fibres of the church. We are fighting a battle these days, not only a battle against sexual immorality in the church but a battle against people in the church today, who support and defend sexual immorality. There are people in the church who will carry placards if you say stop sexual immorality and they will ask you why?

You are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and the apostle says you are bought with a price. So, you should glorify God in your body and in your spirit. Jesus said in John 14: 1-3 that He is gone to prepare a place for us and may we be reminded that church temple will not be raptured, but everybody that is the temple of the Holy Ghost will be raptured. There is a greater thing in Heaven that Jesus Has been building for us for thousands of years. Do you have a mansion up there? Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people.

When the Lord comes again, He is coming for His own. Paul writing to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:19, said, “The Lord knows those that are His.” As we sit in our churches, the Lord knows those who are His. Then Paul adds another sentence, “anyone who calls the name of the Lord should depart from iniquity.”
