What’s your spiritual weight – Part 2?

Text: Daniel 5:1-31

Key Verse: Daniel 5:12: “This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means,” (NLT).

A finger of a man’s hand was writing on the wall of King Belshazzar’s palace, while he and his guest were busy drinking and praising their idols of gold, iron, silver, bronze, wood and stones. King Belshazzar saw part of the handwriting on the wall and that troubled him. The king was astonished and his joy left him; all the drink left him and every other thing also left him. Of course, when the king was worried, every other person was worried about him.

Can you imagine, part of the hand of a man suddenly appeared on the wall and was writing? It was enough to make a mighty man worry. What is this and what is this writing all about? Well, God knows all the languages on earth. You will remember in Genesis 11 at the Tower of Babel when men came together to show what they could achieve and God scattered them by giving them different languages and they could not understand themselves again. Nevertheless, God understood all their languages, which is the reason He is God.

The King cried out: “What is going on here! Bring me the astrologers, the Chaldeans, the soothsayers and the magicians and whosoever reads this writing and interprets it will be clothed with purple and shall have a chain of gold round his neck. And he shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. Purple talks of royalty and majesty and everybody struggled to read it. No astrologer, magician or soothsayer could read it. With all the training they had acquired from Babylon and all their ancient arts, they could still not read it. Everybody was perplexed, everybody’s training, understanding and expertise: everything came to a stop. The King was greatly troubled, his countenance changed and the joints of his hips loosened.

Thanks be to God that the queen’s mother came around and said to the King, there is a man in your kingdom called Daniel who has the exceptional ability to interpret and solve difficult problems. She said to the King: call Daniel and he will tell you what the writing means. Why call for Daniel in the entire kingdom? It is because Daniel has gained more spiritual weight. He has built more spiritual capacity and has grown in his fellowship with God. In God’s scale and balances, Daniel has gained some spiritual weight. This is what the queen mother said concerning Daniel: “There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him,” (Daniel 5:11). All the wise men put together with their weights in different areas of call could not be of any help to the King.

Daniel said to the King, the handwriting means that you have been weighed in God’s balances and you have no spiritual weight. God Has His own balances where He weighs everyone. You cannot balance out on God’s scale if you refuse to give your life to Jesus Christ. The more you grow in fellowship with God, the more your spiritual weight increases and the more you yield to God, the more spiritual weight you gain. When you give your life to Jesus Christ, you have started weighing already and you have started weighing on God’s scale too. Hold on firmly to Jesus Christ; do not allow anything or anybody to tell you anything to the contrary.
