Enhancement of youthful talents will aid development – Shittu

Mr Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications on Friday said that talents and ideas of youths– if enhanced– would aid national development.

This information is contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mrs Oyemade Olufunmilayo, Press and Public Relations Department , Ministry of Communications.

Shittu said this when the National Association of Nigerian Students (South-West zone) led by their president, Okikiola Ogunsola paid him a courtesy visit .

He said, “Talents and ideas of the youths, if enhanced, will take the nation to the mountain top; while the experience of the old, which cannot be quantified, could also serve as foundation and bedrock for the youths.

“Nigerian youths are going through the worst times, especially in areas of job creation.

“This has prompted the Federal Government to establish www.npower.gov.ng –a project meant for job creation for Nigerian youths.

“Graduates are also being encouraged to go into farming”.

Shittu said that four new ICT, hubs had been opened to provide job opportunities for youths, through ICT, adding that knowledge was not the birthright of a few, but that of as many as love it.

According to him, leadership is service, and where there is no service, there is no leadership.

The minister said that the new government was open to ideas that would move the nation forward and improve the lives of Nigerians.

The students, while giving the minister a certificate of merit, said it was to appreciate him for his free legal aid to the needy.

They said that his antecedents and initiatives speak for him from the tender age of 16 when he went into politics to promote justice, growth and good governance nationwide.
