Speaking on the inspiration behind the initiative, Founder, The Graciella Initiative, Grace Anuforo, explained that, “following the successful implementation of our literacy project, which empowered our beneficiaries with vital skills of reading and writing, we recognised the need for sustainable support.”

She added: “We are committed to providing an environment that nurtures their newly acquired literacy skills, equipping them with the tools necessary to translate these skills into a brighter future. Our primary goal is to ensure these girls complete their education, particularly in reputable educational institutions.”

Highlighting the significance of offering internships to these young girls, Anuforo stressed: “The foundation of positive peace requires the establishment of structures and attitudes that foster enduring harmony within society. Gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, poses a significant obstacle to achieving this positive peace. By creating opportunities for young women to acquire essential life skills and compensating them for their efforts, we are steadily constructing systems that diminish gender-based violence stemming from financial dependence.

“This, in turn, contributes to the creation of a more harmonious and peaceful society. Moreover, we are breaking the cycle of poverty, recognising that women are the bedrock of our society. When empowered, they become pillars of strength, providing for their families and prioritising education for their children.”

On the impact of the organisation’s efforts, the visionary social impact advocate stated: “Our efforts will not only increase the population of educated females but also reduce the vulnerability of girls to extreme poverty and gender-based violence. We are providing a platform for women to thrive, regardless of their socio-economic status. By equipping them with the necessary tools and skills, we are enabling them to navigate the world on their own terms, empowering them to become confident and self-reliant individuals.”
