AAREONAKAKANFO of YorubaLand, Iba Gani Adams, yesterday, warned that the continued delay to overhaul the governance system of Nigeria could pose a very dangerous and damaging threat to the corporate existence of the country. He said there could be no better time to address, correct and bring justice and equity into the system.
Speaking at grand finale of the 2023 Olokun Festival in Badagry, Adams, who is also the chief promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), insisted that not until Nigeria is fully restructured along regional lines to make the federating units operate at their pace, it would continue to experience same perennial problems.
He charged the Federal Government to diversify the economy to save the nation from a possible economic crisis.
The Yoruba generalissimo also implored the government to look into the tourism potential of Badagry and build the ancient town as tourist attraction.
Meanwhile, the Akran of Badagry, Oba De Wheno Aholu Toyi, who was represented by Oba Abiodun Whedoku Pativoh, appreciated the Aareonakakanfo for using cultural activities to boost the economy of the town.
Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, on his part, urged the Lagos State government to support Adams in his desire to promote Yoruba culture and tradition.
Other monarchs that spoke at the event included the Onibereko of Ibereko Kingdom, Oba Israel Adewale Okoya, the Aholu Henwa of Kweme Kingdom, Oba Sejiro Ogungbe James JP, Okiki Arolagbade and the Alapa of Egun Awori, Apa Kingdom, Oba Oyekanmi Ajose.
