In a bid to support indigent children and families in the new academic session, a businessman and founder of Weep Not Child initiative, a non-governmental organisation, Mr. Oluwole Alabi has donated learning materials to pupils and schools in Isaba and environs, in Ikole local government council of area of Ekiti State.
Mr. Alabi through his back-to-school programme, distributed school bags, pencils, pens, note books and other essential school items to indigent pupils and students in his community.
He also supported schools with cash for necessary renovation and cleaning of the classrooms and environs to provide a conducive learning environment for learners.
Speaking on the initiative, Alabi said for him, giving and assisting others is inborn. “I have been doing this from my youth, shaping the direction of people positively. I support ideas and encourage people, my targets are school children, the vulnerable in the society and widows too. Government can’t do it alone; we have a responsibility to support the government in its task of ensuring that no child is left out-of-school.
Alabi said through the programme, he encourages others to enroll their wards in public schools and avoid the unnecessary stress of high school fees in private schools. “We can’t help God physically, but when we do things like this for people, we have indirectly met their needs. through our kindness,” he said.
Alabi also rewarded teachers and pupils that reported early to school, giving out gifts. He noted the absence of some students, and expressed hope that the gesture would encourage better attendance and more enrolment in the schools.
