One dead, 18 injured as truck rams into bus on Sagamu-Benin expressway

One person has died and 18 others sustained injuries in an auto crash involving a truck and a commercial bus along the Osoosa/Bigi Junction on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident involved a Mercedes-Benz truck with registration number FZE 223 CR and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KTP 331 XC.

Spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Akinbiyi attributed the crash to excessive speeding by the driver of the Mercedes-Benz truck, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the Toyota Hiace bus.

He added that TRACE operatives, alongside personnel of Amotekun, the police and the Nigerian Army, participated in the rescue operation at the scene.

The injured victims were taken to IDERA Hospital, Odogbolu, while the deceased was deposited at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital morgue.

Akinbiyi further stated that the accident vehicles had been evacuated and towed to the Papa Oscar yard at the Obalende Police Division.
