The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, has launched the fourth edition of his postgraduate scholarship support programme, approving scholarships worth ₦25,853,128.50 for 122 students from the constituency.
The programme was inaugurated on Sunday during the fourth edition of the Postgraduate Support Programme held at the Zibsah Event Centre, off FCE (T) Bichi Old Campus Road.
The initiative, which targets students pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, is part of the lawmaker’s education and human capital development interventions.
Speaking at the event, Bichi said the scholarship scheme was designed to support students in achieving their academic aspirations while contributing to the long-term development of Bichi Federal Constituency through education.
He disclosed that 122 postgraduate students were selected as beneficiaries in the latest edition of the programme, with a total of ₦25,853,128.50 approved for their sponsorship.

The lawmaker also revealed that 21 postgraduate students had been awarded scholarships to study in Malaysia under the first batch of an overseas scholarship scheme. According to him, about 80 per cent of the beneficiaries have completed their studies, while a larger second batch is expected to depart in September.
Bichi said his educational interventions extend beyond scholarships. According to him, more than 700 classrooms have been constructed across the 12 wards of the constituency to address infrastructure deficits in primary and secondary schools.
He added that he is currently sponsoring the salaries of 500 temporary teachers, each earning ₦60,000 monthly, to strengthen teaching capacity and address shortages in public schools.
The lawmaker further disclosed that more than 500 students enrolled in schools under the Kano State Science and Technical School Board are benefiting from scholarships covering tuition, accommodation, learning materials and other educational expenses.
He noted that the scholarship programme also supports students from Bichi studying in universities, colleges of education and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Bichi also announced that an electronic library currently under construction in Bichi would provide students with access to digital learning resources and modern research facilities.
He said his constituency development agenda also encompasses infrastructure, healthcare and youth empowerment projects aimed at improving living standards and creating opportunities for residents of Bichi Federal Constituency.
