Super Eagles striker, Tolu Arokodare, after joining Ajax Amsterdam of Holland has reiterated that scoring goals is his job.

Arokodare said this on Wednesday after completing a summer transfer on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers of England, where he suffered relegation from the Premier League to the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Ajax announced on its official website and social media platforms that it had reached an agreement with Wolves regarding the loan signing of Arokodare, with the 25-year-old striker joining on a one-season loan deal until the summer of 2027.

The agreement includes an option to buy for Ajax for a fee reported to be in the region of 16 million Euros.

In his first official interview as an Ajax player, Arokodare who had a few troubles at Wolves spoke with a smile about his move to Amsterdam.

The striker also introduced himself to the Ajax fans, discussed his goal celebration, talked about his role model and fellow Nigerian Nwankwo Kanu, and explained why he wears the number 99.

He also said that: “Scoring goals is my job, and that is why I am here.” The Super Eagles striker further admitted that he initially thought his agent was joking when he told him Ajax had interest in signing him.

Speaking to Ajax’s official website following his unveiling as the team’s latest signing, the Nigerian international forward could not hide his excitement about sealing a move to one of Europe’s most historic clubs.

Arokodare described his transfer to the Dutch Eredivisie giants as a dream he never imagined would become a reality.

“I could never have imagined that I would play here. Not because I do not want to, but because everyone knows this club. In Nigeria, no one watches the Eredivisie, but everyone knows Ajax,” Arokodare said.

“When my agent said Ajax were interested, I thought he was joking. As I said, I never expected this. I immediately thought: I want this. It is the biggest club in the Netherlands and one of the biggest in Europe.”

Having been barred from training with the first team of Wolves where he scored six goals in 38 games across all competitions in his maiden campaign, the lanky Nigerian striker added that he has missed the game and can’t wait to start playing once again while he looks forward to scoring plenty of goals.

“I have missed playing football. I can’t wait to score goals and hear my name called in this stadium,” said Arokodare at his unveiling by Ajax.

Arokodare, born in Festac, Nigeria on November 23, 2000 began his career in his homeland with Box2Box FC. In 2019, the forward moved to Europe and signed for Latvian side Valmiera FC.

The ten-cap Nigerian international subsequently played for 1. FC Cologne of Germany and Amiens SC of France before continuing his career with KRC Genk in the winter of 2023.

At the Belgian club, he finished as the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League during the 2024/2025 season. In mid-2025, Arokodare completed a move to English club Wolves.
