…as Kwankwaso Support Group says Obi -Kwankwaso presidential ticket is APC’s greatest nightmare
The Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential and vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 election has been described as the nightmare of the federal government’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declared Kwankwaso National Network South East Zone (KNN) while addressing a press conference in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on Thursday.
The press conference themed ” the Position of the KNN on Current Political Development in Nigeria ” , was addressed by the South East Zonal Coordinator, Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai, stating that KNN has remained committed to promoting democratic participation, peaceful political engagement and issue-based politics across Nigeria.
Explaining that KNN as a support and Think Tank group that believes that citizens should actively participate in shaping the nation’s future through lawful and democratic means, the KNN Zonal Coordinator further said that ” it views cooperation among political actors as a positive contribution to democratic consolidation, and that the KNN members across the South East have continued to express their support for greater collaboration among political leaders in the pursuit of national unity , good governance, and inclusive development.
According to Dr Ukpai, it was on this note that KNN profoundly commended Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso for shelving his Presidential ambition in 2027 , and accepting a joint ticket with Mr Peter Obi in a broader political alliance and synergy that was aimed at rescuing Nigeria from political hijack by tiny political merchants.
He said ” it is a strategic move to liberate our democracy from the claws of the incompetent ruling APC and unite the previously fragmented opposition, adding that this singular political alliance , has brought together these two most popular organic political movements in Nigeria , the Obedient Movement and Kwankwasiyya Movement, to become today, the greatest nightmare of the ruling APC.”
KNN commended itself, the two Movements, COPDEM, Civil Society organizations and others it said, sustained voter mobilization and sensitization efforts during the Continuous Voter Registration ( CVR ) that affirmed the South East’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
According to the KNN Coordinator, ” the Zone recorded 830,774 new Voters out of the 6,885,330 registered nationwide, and thus ranking second among the Six geopolitical zones, stating that this brings the South East’s total registered voters to 10,907,606.
While warning against malpractices in the coming elections, asserting that the KNN has put in place robust mechanisms to safeguard the people’s votes in the zone, KNN indicated ” we will firmly resist any attempt to manipulate or alter the genuine verdict of voters in the 2027 election , and stated unequivocally, that the controversial technical glitches witnessed during the 2023 elections must not reoccur in 2027,maintaining that Votes must count, ” as we remain resolute in our commitment to protecting the peoples mandate, such that never again, should the will of the electorate be subverted.
KNN rejected the alleged claim by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma that South East governors resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, and declared that ” such a declaration neither reflects the mood of the people of the South East, nor carries the Democratic mandate of their electorate.”
On the prevailing economic hardship and the need for change, the KNN Zonal Coordinator reacted, saying that it is the KNN belief that the economic challenges confronting the country can be reversed and Nigeria will be repositioned for growth and prosperity through the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
“We believe that the combination of both leaders, based on their respective records and antecedents, offers a credible response to Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges”.
