Women of Rubies Inc. responds to ongoing brand dispute, platform reports

Women of Rubies Inc., a Canadian media and communications company founded by Esther Ijewere, has issued a public statement regarding an ongoing brand dispute involving Ruby Media Group, a U.S.-based organization.

According to Women of Rubies Inc., the dispute relates to concerns raised about similarities between the two business names. Women of Rubies was established in Nigeria in 2015 and later incorporated in Ontario, Canada, in 2023. The company operates as an independent media platform and visibility agency focused on amplifying women’s stories, leadership, achievements, and professional work.

Over the past several months, reports and complaints have been submitted against Women of Rubies across multiple online platforms. Three Instagram pages connected to its work have been affected, while complaints have also been submitted to LinkedIn, Medium, and other platforms.

The company’s LinkedIn page was temporarily suspended while the platform reviewed the complaint. After examining Women of Rubies Inc.’s business registration documents and supporting records, LinkedIn restored the page following a two-week review.

A personal article published by Ijewere on Medium was also reported. She subsequently removed the original post and published a revised version that excluded names, private communications, and identifying information in line with the platform’s policies.

Ijewere said the dispute has gone beyond a routine disagreement about branding and has affected her work, professional relationships, and confidence in promoting new initiatives.

“I respect every business owner’s right to protect their brand, and I am prepared to address any legitimate legal concern through the appropriate process. However, Women of Rubies Inc. is not Ruby Media Group. We have different names, identities, histories, and business operations.”

She added that Women of Rubies has been built through more than a decade of media work, storytelling, advocacy, training, community engagement, and the promotion of women across different sectors.

“For months, I received communications that I experienced as intimidating and threatening, while complaints were also being submitted against platforms and projects connected to my work. I remained quiet for a long time because I hoped the matter could be resolved privately and professionally.”

Ijewere stated that the company has preserved relevant emails, platform notices, business records, media archives, registration documents, and other communications connected to the dispute.

She also clarified that she has never met the owner of Ruby Media Group, conducted business with the organization, represented herself under its name, or interfered with its clients and operations.

“I am not asking the public to target, contact, or harass anyone. I am placing my position on record and asking that any genuine legal concerns be handled through the proper legal channels. I should not have to endure repeated threats, professional interference, reputational harm, or attempts to disrupt my livelihood.”

Women of Rubies Inc. said its mission remains unchanged and that it will continue supporting women through media visibility, storytelling, leadership development, training, and communications.

“Women of Rubies is still here, and the work will continue. I will protect the name, reputation, and community I have spent years building, while remaining committed to a professional and lawful resolution.”
