A new Islamic boarding institution in Nigeria is positioning itself to prepare young people for both spiritual growth and the digital economy through a model that combines Qur’anic education with technology, entrepreneurship and leadership training.

Tahsin Academy, described as a modern boarding school built on “Holistic Skills and Noble Values,” said its objective is to develop well-rounded, disciplined and future-ready learners by balancing faith-based instruction with practical, marketable competencies.

According to the Director of the Academy, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Mustapha, the institution integrates Qur’anic memorisation, Arabic and Islamic studies with digital technology, entrepreneurship, leadership development and character building.

“The Academy combines Qur’anic memorisation, Arabic and Islamic education with digital technology, entrepreneurship, leadership development and character building,” Abubakar said. “Its distinctive educational model is based on a balance of Islamic knowledge and digital skills, with the objective of producing learners who possess strong moral values alongside practical competencies needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.”

A central pillar of the programme is technology and digital skills training. Students receive hands-on instruction in areas including software development, graphic design, digital marketing, video editing, AI productivity tools and computer maintenance.

Abubakar said the training is designed to go beyond basic computer literacy. “Students are being prepared for the opportunities of the future. The purpose of this training goes beyond simply teaching students how to use computers; it is designed to give them practical, marketable skills that can enable them to work, innovate, provide digital services and create businesses,” he said.

At the core of the Academy’s approach is an entrepreneurial vision. Tahsin aims to graduate students who can create opportunities rather than only seek employment, through entrepreneurship development, practical projects, industry exposure and digital training.

The programme specifically identifies entrepreneurship, remote work, digital careers and self-reliance as key pathways for graduates.

The Academy also stresses inclusivity. Its framework is designed to accommodate students and individuals with disabilities, with tailored support and accessible learning approaches.

“Tahsin Academy’s commitment to holistic development provides a foundation for creating learning opportunities in which learners with different abilities can acquire appropriate digital, entrepreneurial and practical skills,” Abubakar said. “The goal is to ensure that disability does not become a barrier to learning, innovation, economic participation or self-reliance. Where appropriate training, support and accessible learning approaches are provided, students with disabilities can also develop technology-based skills, pursue entrepreneurship, provide digital services and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”

He added that the inclusive model aligns with the Academy’s broader goal of developing learners’ spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and technological capacities.
