As part of efforts aimed at ensuring that Methodist High School, Arigbajo, sustain its status as one of the model schools in Ogun State, the Alumni body – the Methodist High School, Arigbajo Old Students Association (MEHSOSAI), convened a Set Executives Conference, to mobilise all the members towards consolidating the achievements of the school.
Held at the Conference Hotel, Abeokuta, with theme: “Leading Together: Harnessing Our Alumni Network for Growth and Legacy,” the MEHSOSAI President, Dr. Clement Obadimu in his opening remarks emphasised the need for all members to support the body for the collective benefits of all. This was followed by the keynote address delivered by the Board Trustees Chairman, Chief Fatai Abiodun.
There were three different lectures – Returning to Roots, Celebrating our Heritage – a pull from our school learning to shape the future, delivered by a former National Vice President of the association, Ogbeni Kolawole Isola. This was followed by another lecture – Leading with Clarity, Courage and Commitment: the 3C’s Leadership skills for 2026 and Beyond, presented by Emeritus President, Alhaji Shuaib Sokunbi, while the third lecture – Transparent Books, Trusted Leadership, Modernising Alumni Financial Systems, was delivered by Alhaji Tajudeen Amodu FCA of 1980 set.
Aside the lectures, there were also sub-group deliberations and symposium, which mainly focused on identifying the challenges and major encumbrances affecting the body.
According to the communiqué issued at the end of the retreat, the set executives were charged to imbibe exemplary qualities that can be passed down to upcoming sets.
Emphasis was laid on the need to imbibe the 3Cs – Clarity, Courage and Commitment by leaders to drive positive change in their sets, while the importance of cultivating the 3Cs to make set executives better listeners, communicators and collaborators were also stressed.
“Set leaders must apply confront, compete and conquer model to achieve challenge-focused leadership. There is need for commitment across board, as it is glue that holds the team together, reflecting a leader’s dedication to the sets visions.”
The importance of prudent and transparent accounting system by all sets were also emphasised, while a sound of warning to avoid weak financial systems that may lead to mistrust in the sets was raised.
During the sub-group deliberations, several challenges were identified as critical to be addressed, in order to keep the Alumni progressing. They include discrimination against some members, communication gap, inadequate finance, lack of respect for others, lack of welfare opportunities, leadership crisis, lack of skills/empowerment workshops and time management during meetings among other issues.
