Police arrest suspected vehicle theft kingpin in Ogun, recovers stolen car

28-yeara old suspected vehicle theft kingpin, Mosuru Issa

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 28-yeara old suspected vehicle theft kingpin, Mosuru Issa and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The suspect was arrested  about 0730hrs September 11, 2026, when operatives of the Mowe Division were conducting routine patrol and stop-and-search along the Mowe axis of the expressway.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, yesterday.

Babaseyi explained that the during the stop- and- search, the operatives flagged down the wine colour Toyota car for security check.

He explained further that the three occupants of the vehicle,on sighting the police, suddenly abandoned the car and fled in different directions, raising suspicion.

“the operatives immediately pursued them, resulting in the arrest of Mosuru Issa of Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, while the stolen vehicle was secured and recovered.”

“Ppreliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen on 7 September 2026 from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.” Babaseyi said.

He said that efforts are ongoing to locate the vehicle’s owner and apprehend the fleeing accomplices, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response.

The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained operations aimed at protecting lives and property and disrupting vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the State.

He, however, advised vehicle owners to adopt basic security measures, including the use of tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices, particularly when vehicles are parked in public or unsecured locations.
